Some of the most meaningful projects begin not just with a vision, but with a deeper purpose. Years after designing an initial concept together, Autumn (co-owner of Frankie & Jo’s) reconnected with our team to bring a long-held dream to life. It was the right alignment of people, timing, and intention that made the Moonwave DADU possible.

Rooted in wellness, community, and natural materials, the Moonwave DADU was conceived as a healing, grounded space that blends seamlessly with its Seward Park surroundings. The final design is sculptural yet soft, drawing inspiration from southern California coastal architecture and enveloped entirely in untreated cedar to silver naturally with age. Every design move, from the oversized round window to the repurposed cabinetry, was a collaborative effort guided by Autumn’s eye for aesthetics and values of sustainability, non-toxic living, and beauty in simplicity.

Built in partnership with neighbor and builder Nick Olson of Peridot Projects, while their children shared a nanny and played in the yard, this project is a rare example of construction as a communal act of care. The result is a thoughtful, serene studio retreat that embodies the values of intention, connection, and craft—providing space for guests, creative work, and quiet retreat, all within the heart of a close-knit neighborhood.
