Figurehead Brewing, Stone Way
A second taproom for Figurehead Brewing that blends maritime roots, Japanese influence with the addition of MidNite Ramen, and neighborhood warmth in Fremont.

Stone Way location marks the brewery’s second taproom and a natural evolution of its original Interbay space. Housed in a former furniture warehouse in Fremont, the project transforms an unheated, utilitarian building into a welcoming neighborhood taproom designed for regulars to settle in and stay awhile. The expanded footprint allows Figurehead to serve not only its own beers, but also a curated selection of local beers, ciders, and wines, reinforcing its role as a community gathering place.

Atelier Drome worked closely with the owner to establish the overall design direction, building on the minimalist, maritime inspired language of the Interbay taproom while introducing more color and warmth. The owner took the lead on interior finish selections, carefully shaping the space with intention and personality. As guests move through the taproom, the design subtly shifts from nautical references at the front to increasingly Japanese inspired elements toward the back, including the original food truck reimagined as an indoor ordering counter. This transition signals the arrival at Midnite Ramen’s permanent brick and mortar kitchen, which serves both taproom guests and its own customers.

Beyond the interior, the project reclaims an overgrown outdoor area and transforms it into a tucked away patio with a quiet Japanese garden inspired atmosphere, offering an unexpected oasis set back from the busy Stone Way corridor. Bringing the project to life required close collaboration between Atelier Drome, structural engineer Swenson Say Fagét, builder BMDC Services, and the client, particularly in navigating the code and construction challenges of adapting an aging warehouse into a fully conditioned food and beverage space. The result is a taproom that feels layered, personal, and deeply rooted in its neighborhood, offering an inviting second home for Figurehead Brewing and its growing community.
