Cubix: The Living Room Cafe
The ground floor of the Cubix Apartments was transformed into a much-needed community gathering space in North Seattle. Combining the charm of a coffee shop with the practicality of a retail market space, The Living Room Café offers the ultimate convenience for both apartment residents and visitors looking for a cozy place to unwind, socialize, or work.
The style blends industrial and modern with fun details, textures, and materials throughout the space. The layout thoughtfully distinguishes the retail market area from the café while ensuring a harmonious flow through the use of cohesive design elements. Vibrant white walls are accentuated by plumbing pipe shelving, wood slat paneling, and subway tile. The market area showcases a minimalist convenience store aesthetic which transitions to warmer tones in the café area. The striking logo wall at the entrance artfully merges the white wall with wood accents, a visual statement of the fusion of functions within the space.
The coffee shop caters to diverse preferences with space for various seating options, from a comfortable grouping of chairs to tables and bar seating, while allowing for flexible circulation for pickups. Whether guests are planning a leisurely day with coffee, dropping in for a quick lunch, or grabbing a retail item, the welcoming ambiance accommodates everyone. The bright white point of sale transitions into a coffee counter adorned with rich wood textures, providing a relaxing and grounding environment for those who wish to linger. Located on the far side of the space from the entrance and market, a cozy nook is created by the dropped ceiling, wood slats, and plush cushions with decorative shelving above. This intimate corner offers the perfect setting for quietly working or indulging in a good book.
