Choukette

Nestled in a cozy but popular spot just steps from Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market, Choukette takes a small footprint and leaves a big impact. A French bakery specializing exclusively in the art of “éclairart,” those seeking to indulge their sweet tooth are immediately welcomed into the space via a large, floor-to-ceiling barn door that opens to the street and entices exploration. Inside, the clean palette is a mix of white counters with warm wooden tops and unobtrusive display cases that show off the artisan creations.

Self-built by the owners (they even acted as their own general contractor), the goal was to mix the modern and the new, incorporating an older, existing wood ceiling with sleek, steel fans, harkening to the history and tradition in French baking, while also embracing the modern, bustling city thriving around it. All materials were locally sourced, even the large, wood-planked door fastened to cast-iron rails that turns an otherwise ordinary door leading to an office into a warm, rustic visual coda to the overall design.
