Mod-Remodel Home Kirkland, WA Residential
For this family of four, we wanted to create a home that was fun and modern without sacrificing the feeling of comfort. We peeled off the roof of an existing mid-century home, gutting the first floor (but maintaining some features like the roman brick wainscot) and adding a second story. The new home is almost totally undistinguishable from the old home. The open living room is both visually and functionally inviting by offering direct connections to the entry, stair, and kitchen beyond. The circular seating keeps the room comfortable and cozy while creating an intimate space for interaction.
The master bedroom embraces the sophistication that comes with simplicity. The wide windows and glass doors let light stream into the room and create a connection to the rest of the beautiful Kirkland neighborhood and the view beyond. Large windows were incorporated into rooms through out the house in order to create a sense of openness, while contributing to theme of clean lines.
Personalization was key in allowing the clean sense of modern design to coexist with a feeling of comfort. We designed the bedroom as a space where personality could shine through. The bright pops of color and fun details like the loft allow the room to be a form of expression. The interior of the home is filled with unique touches like circular windows and lamps grounded in a classic black and white color scheme that make the house stylish without being kitschy. The plot of land allowed for a substantial backyard, perfect for the family to spend time together. Considering the amount of space, the design of the backyard ensures there is something for everyone to enjoy.
