Madison Park Addition Seattle, WA Residential
This charming 1905 cottage was in desperate need of additional above ground space. Dark basement bedrooms just weren't cutting it anymore for the homeowners who aspired for a light and airy perch above their modest home. Working around tricky setback restrictions, and with just a small stair addition to one side of the existing home, an additional 800 square feet of living space was created on the new second floor.
The second-floor addition boasts a new spacious master suite with walk in closet, 5-piece master bath, and a bonus sitting room with built-in benches. The bedroom and sitting room bring in light and views of the neighborhood that borders the arboretum. Additionally, a small study/second bedroom with en-suite bathroom is also located on the new second floor. Custom built-ins help the room feel cozy and inviting. The light filled stair features an open railing that ties in beautifully with the existing main floor living room. We worked hard to keep the addition in line with the aesthetics of the original home. Using a mix of materials and working with a hip roof to keep the massing low helps this cottage grow up without feeling overwhelming. All new siding and a bold color choice set this home apart as a stunner in the neighborhood.
